The Director of the BP Ford Abu Dhabi World Rally Team received his accolade in The Queen's Birthday Honours list for his services to British motor sport.
"There are few people more deserving of this award than Malcolm Wilson, said Colin Hilton, Chief Executive of the Motor Sports Association. “Over the last 30 years, Malcolm has dedicated himself to the sport, becoming one of world rallying's most successful names. Having enjoyed domestic and international success as a driver, he has since excelled as a team principal, claiming two manufacturers' world titles for Ford in 2006 and 2007.
"Malcolm has done a great deal to assist with the development of motor sport in this country and we were delighted last year when he agreed to become an Ambassador for the MSA's Go Motorsport campaign. He is hugely respected around the world and this award is fitting recognition of his experience and success."
Wilson, himself was both shocked and delighted to be presented with an OBE. "It's a great honour, and a huge surprise, to be recognised in this way by Her Majesty The Queen," said the 53-year-old managing director of Cumbrian-based M-Sport, the preparation business which runs Ford's world rally programme.
"Motor sport, and particularly rallying, has been my life. I feel so proud to have delivered two world championship titles for Ford, and equally as proud to have done so from M-Sport's base at my home town in Cockermouth, Cumbria. I feel very humble that our achievements have been recognised in this way.
"But this is not just an honour for me. It's also a reward for all the employees at M-Sport who work so hard to keep Ford at the forefront of the FIA World Rally Championship. They should also feel great pride at this award," said Wilson.
