Stars on show at NEC

Autosport 2010
Go Motorsport’s special display stand was a major attraction at the recent Autosport Show.
Tuesday, 19 January 2010

Highlighting the campaign’s exciting new School Visits programme, the NEC showcase featured just about every kind of motor sport open to those still too young to drive on the public highways.

Three competition cars represented all the various circuit racing opportunities available to those aged under 17. Zoe Wenham’s yellow SAXMAX Citroen and Sarah Moore’s championship winning Ginetta showed how girl power is becoming an increasingly potent force in all forms of junior racing – they were joined by the latest Juno Formula Ford single-seater which can be raced by budding F1 stars who’ve turned 16.

Other major drawcards included a Junior Dragster and Kelly Bird’s black Minicross Mini. Autotest and autosolo cars were also on the stand alongside Cameron Davies’ Nissan Micra. Cameron won the inaugural Junior 1000 rally title in 2009, a new series open to 14 year olds aiming to emulate past British WRC champions Colin McRae and Richard Burns.

Adding further interest the British Schools Karting Championship was also represented on the Go Motorsport stand while a couple of battery powered racers from the Greenpower scheme caused quite a stir. A couple of Playstation mini simulators provided by RBS proved popular, too.

Over the four days, the Go Motorsport team handed out thousands of goodie bags, stickers and information flyers to interested show goers of all ages and those on the stand reported significant interest from lots of youngsters keen to get competing as swiftly as possible.

Go Motorsport ambassadors including Martin Brundle, Allan McNish, Jason Plato and Colin Turkington also lent their support with visits to what was a massively successful display.
